Bromodichloroacetic Acid Listed Under Proposition 65 (August 2016)The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adding bromodichloroacetic acid to the list of chemicals under Proposition 65 known to the state to cause cancer under the “authoritative bodies” mechanism. The National Toxicology Program (NTP) published a report concluding that the chemical leads to carcinogenic activity.
According to the National Toxicology Program’s website, bromodichloroacetic acid is a compound produced when treating water with disinfectants. The chemical is formed when molecules in the water and molecules in the disinfectant solution bind.
